Nearly 900,000 New Displaced Persons Registered in the East Between July and October 2025, OCHA Warns
Kinshasa, December 10, 2025 - Nearly 886,000 new internally displaced persons (IDPs) were registered between July and October 2025 in the provinces of Ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu, and Tanganyika, according to the latest figures published on December 2 by OCHA.
The UN humanitarian agency attributes these mass displacements to clashes between the FARDC (Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo) and armed groups, land disputes, and natural disasters.
Simultaneously, returns were recorded: 72,000 in Ituri, 67,400 in South Kivu, and 318,000 in North Kivu.
OCHA raised the alarm about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the affected areas and called for the lifting of restrictions hindering assistance operations, amid violence perpetrated by the ADF, M23, CODECO, and other militias.
Despite the dismantling of several camps following the M23’s capture of Goma and Bukavu, many families continue to host displaced people, while the implementation of the humanitarian corridor announced at the Paris summit remains slow to materialize.
