Nansana Leaders Warn Health Workers Over Alleged Patient Extortion

Nansana, July 13, 2026 - Leaders in Nansana Division have vowed to take action against health workers accused of demanding illegal payments from patients, particularly pregnant women seeking services at government health facilities.

Speaking during a division council meeting, Nansana Division Chairperson Sam Mugabi condemned the alleged practice, describing it as unlawful and a violation of public trust. He warned that health workers found demanding money from patients would face disciplinary measures and possible arrest.

Mugabi said residents should be able to access public healthcare services without being subjected to unofficial charges, adding that the division leadership would work with relevant authorities to address corruption within government health facilities.

The warning comes amid concerns over reports of patients being asked to pay for services that are supposed to be provided free of charge in public facilities.

During the same meeting, the division’s internal security officials urged councillors to focus on protecting residents and avoid shielding individuals involved in criminal activities. Leaders were encouraged to put aside political differences and work together to improve community safety and service delivery.

The newly constituted Nansana Division Council also pledged to strengthen accountability, promote unity among leaders, and improve public services for residents.
