Museveni Orders Official Burial For Tooro King Oyo

Kampala, August 29, 2026 - President Yoweri Museveni ordered an official burial for Tooro King Oyo after announcing that the monarch had died of aggressive cancer in the United States, giving the death national significance.

Museveni directed that flags fly at half-mast for three days. He also said the king had left behind a prince as heir, a detail likely to shape succession arrangements within the Tooro royal establishment.

Musuuga Charles Kayondo Kamurasi, 80, is the head of the Babiito royal clan, the lineage from which Tooro kings are drawn. The clan's role will be central as the kingdom manages mourning and continuity.
