Museveni Campaigns for NRM Candidate in Kalangala, Promises Infrastructure and Services

KALANGALA, June 22, 2026 - President Yoweri Museveni has urged voters in Kalangala District to elect National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Idah Nabayiga in the Woman Member of Parliament by-election, pledging accelerated infrastructure development and improved public services if the district aligns more closely with the government.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Kalangala Town Council, the President said stronger cooperation between local leaders and the central government would help address the district's longstanding development challenges.

Museveni outlined several government commitments, including the deployment of two additional ferries to improve transport across the islands of Lake Victoria. The planned services are expected to strengthen connectivity between islands as well as links with the mainland.

He also pledged to upgrade the Lutoboka-Kyamuswa Road to paved status and address electricity shortages, particularly in the Kyamuswa area, where many communities remain without access to the national power grid.

In the social sector, the President said the government plans to construct three secondary schools in sub-counties that currently lack government schools and prioritize the establishment of a district referral hospital to improve access to healthcare.

Museveni further announced plans to revive the Kyamuswa oil palm project, stating that funding allocated for the initiative remains available and would support renewed agricultural development in the district.

He also highlighted Kalangala's tourism potential, arguing that improved roads, electricity, and water infrastructure would attract investment, create employment opportunities, and expand markets for local agricultural producers.

The President encouraged residents to diversify into commercial agriculture, including coffee cultivation, while reaffirming government support for fisheries management measures aimed at restoring fish stocks in Lake Victoria.
