MP Questions Deputy Prime Minister on Fuel Supply Amid Middle East Crisis

Kinshasa March 16, 2026 - Congolese National Deputy Flory Mapamboli Posa submitted a written question to the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the National Economy regarding the potential impact of the Middle East crisis on the Democratic Republic of Congo’s fuel supply. The parliamentary inquiry, formally submitted under Article 180 of the National Assembly’s Rules of Procedure, addresses concerns stemming from recent disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz and the Suez Canal-two key global petroleum transit routes responsible for approximately 20% and 10% of daily oil consumption, respectively. During a recent Council of Ministers meeting, the government assessed the effects of these disruptions on national fuel availability. Officials indicated that current stock levels are sufficient to meet the country’s needs until June and presented a series of measures designed to maintain the balance of the fuel supply system and limit budgetary impacts over the short, medium, and long term. The National Assembly’s Bureau will now review the submission to ensure its admissibility before forwarding it to the Deputy Prime Minister for response.
