Mozambique Parliamentary Speaker Visits Rwandan Security Forces in Cabo Delgado
CABO DELGADO, Mozambique - The Speaker of the Mozambique Chamber of Deputies, Margarida Adamugi Talapa, visited Rwandan Security Forces (RSF) deployed in Cabo Delgado Province on 23 December 2025, commending their role in combating terrorism.
Talapa was accompanied by several high-ranking officials, including Cabo Delgado Governor Valige Tauabo and Mozambique Chief of Army Staff Maj. Gen. André Rafael Mahunguane. The delegation was received by the Head of Mozambique Security Forces, Maj. Gen. Vincent Gatama, who briefed them on operations in the region.
During the visit, Talapa praised the cooperation between Rwandan and Mozambican security agencies in restoring peace and security in Mocímboa da Praia, an area previously devastated by the Ansar al Sunnah terrorist group. She emphasized that peace and security are essential for the development of Mozambique, urging Rwandan forces to continue their mission.
Talapa also highlighted that the partnership between Rwanda and Mozambique reflects their unity and shared goal of promoting stability in Cabo Delgado.
Since July 2021, Rwandan and Mozambican forces have jointly worked to combat terrorist activities, successfully driving terrorists from their strongholds, neutralizing them in forests, and enabling residents to return home and rebuild.
In August 2025, the governments of Rwanda and Mozambique renewed cooperation agreements focusing on investment and counter-terrorism, further strengthening bilateral ties and regional security efforts.
