Minister Abdoulaye Diop Joins Collective Iftar Under “Sunkalo Solidarity 2026”
Bamako, February 24, 2026 - Mali’s Foreign Affairs Minister Abdoulaye Diop took part Tuesday in a collective iftar in the Korofina district of Bamako, as part of Operation “Sunkalo Solidarity 2026,” a national initiative launched by Transitional President General Assimi Goïta to promote solidarity and national unity. The event, held at the ASKO grounds, brought together administrative officials, municipal authorities, and religious leaders in what participants described as a moment of spiritual reflection, community sharing, and social cohesion during the holy month of Ramadan. Promoting Solidarity and National Unity Officials said the initiative aims to reinforce social and religious values, encourage civic engagement, and strengthen national unity at a time when the country continues to face major political and security challenges. Speaking at the gathering, Minister Diop emphasized the importance of faith, solidarity, and collective responsibility, noting that recent difficulties faced by Mali highlight the need for national cohesion and divine guidance. Ramadan and Lent: A Symbol of Unity The minister also pointed out that the coincidence of Ramadan with the Christian Lent offers a unique opportunity for Malians to deepen both spiritual devotion and social solidarity. He called on citizens to strengthen brotherhood, mutual assistance, and patriotism, urging Malians to work together in a spirit of active solidarity and national commitment. Minister Diop concluded by appealing for prayers, unity, and patriotic action, stressing that Mali remains a nation that brings together all its citizens regardless of religion or ethnicity.
