Mauritanian Defense Minister Delivers Presidential Message to Mali’s Assimi Goïta
Bamako, June 15, 2026 - Mali's transitional president, Gen. Assimi Goïta, held talks with Mauritania's Minister of Defense and Retirees' Affairs and Son of Martyrs, Hanana Ould Sidi, during an official audience in Bamako focused on bilateral cooperation between the neighboring countries.
The Mauritanian minister delivered a written message from Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani to his Malian counterpart, underscoring ongoing diplomatic engagement between the two governments.
The meeting was attended by Mali's Minister Delegate for Defense and Veterans Affairs, Gen. Oumar Diarra.
Speaking to journalists after the audience, Ould Sidi thanked President Goïta for the reception and confirmed that he had conveyed the written message from President Ghazouani, without disclosing its contents.
The visit reflects continued high-level contacts between Mali and Mauritania as the two countries seek to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation on issues of mutual interest.
