Kindu, Maniema - In an unprecedented move since the province’s independence, the government of Maniema has unveiled an ambitious road and bridge modernization program spanning all seven territories. The announcement was made on Monday, November 3, 2025, by Minister of Infrastructure and Public Works John Banza during the 2nd Provincial Conference on Mines, Energy, and Infrastructure in Kindu.

The project, planned in two phases, will first focus on improving the roads of Kasongo, Pangi, and Kibombo, before extending to Kabambare, Kailo, and Lubutu. In addition to rural roads, the program includes the paving of urban streets in Kindu and the rehabilitation of critical bridges, currently under technical assessment.

“The goal is to open up the province, strengthen connectivity with neighboring regions, and foster local economic growth,” Minister Banza said, emphasizing the government’s commitment to national unity and sustainable development.

Local officials and business leaders welcomed the initiative, noting that improved infrastructure will facilitate trade, mobility, and access to essential services, marking a historic step for Maniema’s development.
