Mali Strengthens Deradicalization Efforts Through State-Civil Society Cooperation
Bamako, April 1, 2026 - Mali’s authorities are stepping up efforts to combat violent extremism through closer cooperation with civil society organizations, with a renewed focus on prevention and deradicalization initiatives.
The Minister of Religious Affairs, Worship, and Customs, Dr. Mahamadou Koné, received the coordinator of the national NGO Think Peace, Abdou Kola Bocoum, for discussions aimed at strengthening national peacebuilding strategies.
The meeting focused on revitalizing deradicalization centers across different regions of Mali, as part of broader efforts to reinforce prevention mechanisms against violent extremism and terrorism.
Officials also emphasized the importance of improving the dissemination and implementation of the National Policy for the Prevention and Fight Against Violent Extremism and Terrorism, with the goal of enhancing public awareness and coordination among stakeholders.
The initiative reflects ongoing collaboration between government institutions and civil society actors aimed at promoting peace, social cohesion, and long-term stability in Mali’s communities.
