Mali | President Assimi Goïta Attends Mamadi Doumbouya’s Inauguration in Guinea

Conakry, January 17, 2026 - General Assimi Goïta, President of the Transition in Mali, traveled to Conakry on January 17, 2026, to attend the inauguration ceremony of Guinean President Mamadi Doumbouya, alongside other African heads of state. He was accompanied by a delegation including members of his presidential cabinet and several ministers, notably those of Defense and Veterans Affairs, Economy and Finance, Transport and Infrastructure, and Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Mr. Goïta departed Bamako in the morning to attend the event. The inauguration ceremony of Mamadi Doumbouya, who was elected on December 28, 2025, took place at the 50,000-seat General Lansana Conté Stadium in Nongo, marking the end of the transitional period that began after the 2021 coup. Among the leaders present were Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema (Gabon), Bassirou Diomaye Faye (Senegal), Joseph Nyuma Boakai (Liberia), Adama Barrow (Gambia), Julius Maada Bio (Sierra Leone), Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani (Mauritania), and Paul Kagame (Rwanda), demonstrating regional support for the inauguration. According to Guinean authorities, about ten heads of state and international delegations were expected, amid a flurry of diplomatic activity.
