Mali Partners with UNAIDS to Eliminate HIV in Newborns by 2030

Bamako, December 20, 2025 - The State of Mali has partnered with UNAIDS to accelerate progress toward the goal of “Zero HIV in Newborns” by 2030, targeting the triple elimination of HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B. A key component of the initiative is to strengthen prenatal care coverage to 95% for pregnant women.

This collaboration underscores Mali’s commitment to improving maternal and child health in line with the African Union’s Sustainable Development Goals. It could substantially reduce mother-to-child transmission, enhancing public health outcomes and promoting equity. However, limited access to care and resources in rural areas may restrict the program’s effectiveness without further investment in health infrastructure.
