Mali Launches Steering Committee for EU Technical Cooperation Unit
Bamako, February 5, 2026 - Mali officially launched the inaugural session of the Steering Committee of the Technical Cooperation Unit with the European Union (CTC-EU) on Thursday in Bamako. The meeting was chaired by Abdoulaye Diop, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in the presence of the European Union Representative in Mali.
Strengthening National Ownership
Minister Diop emphasized that the establishment of the CTC-EU, financed through the national budget, reflects the commitment of Mali’s highest authorities to ensuring strong national ownership and leadership in the management of cooperation programs with the European Union.
According to the minister, the initiative seeks to enhance coordination, improve oversight of ongoing projects, and maximize the impact of EU-funded programs, particularly in a context requiring greater efficiency in public action.
Reinforcing Institutional Capacity
Diop welcomed the role of the CTC-EU in strengthening the operational capacities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, enabling it to effectively manage, coordinate, and oversee the full cycle of EU-financed projects and programs in Mali.
He also reaffirmed the Malian government’s commitment to maintaining a constructive and collaborative partnership with the European Union and its Member States, aimed at improving the well-being of the population.
During the session, members of the Steering Committee were tasked with reviewing the draft annual report of the CTC-EU, assessing project implementation, identifying constraints, and outlining prospects to enhance the impact of future interventions.
