Mali Launches SDG-Aligned Investment Map to Channel Private Capital into High-Impact Projects

Bamako, December 9, 2025 - The Investment Promotion Agency of Mali (API-Mali) has officially launched an interactive investment map aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a digital platform designed to steer private capital toward projects with strong social and environmental impact.

According to API-Mali, the tool provides real-time information on investment opportunities across priority sectors such as sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, and infrastructure. The platform will be updated continuously to ensure data reliability, enhance transparency, and strengthen Mali’s attractiveness to both domestic and international investors.

Authorities say the initiative marks a significant step forward in the digitization of investment services in Mali, where access to economic opportunities is often constrained by bureaucratic bottlenecks and regional instability. By centralizing and standardizing investment data, the platform aims to reduce administrative barriers, improve visibility for viable projects, and facilitate decision-making by investors.

Analysts note that the investment map could help limit corruption, promote the inclusion of local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and better align private investment with national development priorities, particularly those of the Economic and Social Development Agency (ADES) focused on inclusive growth. Similar digital tools have been highlighted in African Development Bank (AfDB) reports as effective mechanisms for mobilizing sustainable finance.

Technology experts also view the platform as a move toward a more digital and transparent economy, with the potential to increase foreign direct investment (FDI) in a country where internet penetration currently stands at around 35 percent.

However, observers caution that the impact of the initiative may be limited by uneven internet access and cybersecurity risks, which could exclude rural or vulnerable investors unless accompanied by additional investment in digital infrastructure and data protection systems.

Despite these challenges, the launch of the SDG-aligned investment map is widely seen as a strategic signal of Mali’s commitment to sustainable development, innovation, and improved investment governance amid a complex economic and security environment.
