Mali: IMF and WAEMU Commission Commend Country’s Economic Performance

Bamako, December 2, 2025 - The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the WAEMU Commission officially commended Mali’s resilience, fiscal discipline, and strong macroeconomic performance, despite ongoing security, climate, and economic challenges in recent years.

From November 10 to 21, 2025, an IMF mission led by Ms. Wenjie Chen conducted the first staff review of the program, which was completed in April 2025.

Objectives achieved and transparent management of funds.

Full commitment from the Malian authorities to economic reforms.

Macroeconomic indicators under control despite challenges such as:

Inflation: Below 3% in 2025

Economic Growth: Projected at 6.1% according to Malian authorities

Budget Deficit: Reduced to 2.7% (below WAEMU standard of 3%)

Public Debt: Controlled at 41.7%, well below the community ceiling of 70%

Unemployment: Managed since 2021

The WAEMU Commission also congratulated Mali, highlighting excellent economic performance in terms of growth, debt management, inflation control, and fiscal discipline.

Looking ahead, with the settlement of the dispute with Barrick Gold, 2026 promises to be particularly favorable, especially for the gold sector.
