Mali | High Islamic Council Calls for Return of Imam Dicko

Bamako, January 2026 - The President of the High Islamic Council of Mali, Ousmane Madani Haïdara, called on the head of the junta in Bamako during the New Year’s greetings ceremony in Koulouba to authorize the safe return of Imam Mahmoud Dicko, whom he said could play a decisive role in national reconciliation. Meanwhile, prominent figures in Ségou are urging the authorities to designate the CFR, Imam Dicko’s organization, as a terrorist organization, in order to initiate legal proceedings against it.
