Mali Emphasizes National Cohesion Ahead of Major Islamic Unity Gathering
Bamako, April 13, 2026 - Efforts to promote national unity and peaceful coexistence were highlighted on Monday as the Minister of Religious Affairs, Worship, and Customs, Dr. Mahamadou Koné, received a delegation from the National Bureau of the High Islamic Council of Mali. The delegation, led by the Council’s Eighth Vice-President, Sheikh Mohamed Maki Bah, met with the minister to present preparations for an upcoming major religious gathering dedicated to strengthening unity and reconciliation among Muslims. According to the delegation, the event is scheduled for May 2, 2026, at the Palace of Culture in Bamako. It will bring together religious leaders from across the country to reflect on issues related to national cohesion, social harmony, and peaceful coexistence among Malian communities. The initiative is part of broader efforts by religious and state authorities to reinforce dialogue and solidarity, particularly in a context where social unity is considered essential for national stability. Minister Koné welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed the importance of continued engagement with religious institutions in promoting shared values of peace, tolerance, and unity across the country.
