Mali Co-Chairs National Steering Committee for Peacebuilding Investments

Bamako, February 12, 2026 - Abdoulaye Diop, Malian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Lieutenant General Ismaël Wagué, Minister of State for Reconciliation, Peace, and National Cohesion, co-chaired the National Steering Committee for Peacebuilding Investment Mechanisms in Mali on Thursday, February 12, 2026, in Bamako, with the UN Resident Coordinator in Mali in attendance. The session reviewed projects under the Peacebuilding Fund and the Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Action Fund, bringing together technical and financial partners, including the Chargé d’affaires of Canada, representatives of UN Women, the United Nations Population Fund, and members of civil society. Minister Diop highlighted the importance of aligning all projects with national priorities and the country’s strategic development vision, in line with new principles guiding public action. The UN Resident Coordinator praised the government’s leadership in peacebuilding, noting the structured and inclusive nature of Mali’s framework. Minister Wagué welcomed progress in project implementation, while Committee members recommended intensifying government-led interventions, with strengthened operational monitoring and field visits, to sustainably improve the living conditions of the population.
