Mali-Canada Economic Ties: Diaspora-Led Initiative Seeks to Boost Investment

Bamako, April 15, 2026 - Efforts to strengthen economic cooperation between Mali and Canada are gaining momentum, driven by a new initiative spearheaded by members of the Malian diaspora.

The Minister of Malians Living Abroad and African Integration held talks on Wednesday with Moustapha Diop, co-founder of DFA Communication, who presented plans for the establishment of a Mali-Canada Business Council aimed at fostering closer commercial ties between the two countries.

The proposed council, led by a network of Malian and Canadian business leaders, seeks to promote investment opportunities, enhance bilateral cooperation, and support the development of sustainable economic partnerships.

According to its promoters, the organization will bring together around thirty founding members from diverse sectors of the business community, creating a platform for dialogue and collaboration between private sector actors in both countries.

During the meeting, Diop outlined the strategic objectives of the initiative, emphasizing its role in facilitating trade exchanges and encouraging cross-border investment.

The official launch of the Mali-Canada Business Council is scheduled for April 30, 2026, in Bamako, where it will be held under the patronage of the Minister of Malians Living Abroad and African Integration.

The initiative highlights the growing role of diaspora communities in shaping economic diplomacy and contributing to national development through international partnerships.
