Bamako, April 10, 2026 - Military cooperation between Mali and the United States was at the center of a closed-door meeting held in Bamako between senior defense officials and the U.S. diplomatic mission. The United States Ambassador to Mali, Rachna Korhonen, paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Defense and Veterans Affairs, where she was received by the Minister of State, Lieutenant General Sadio Camara. The meeting, which lasted just over thirty minutes, took place at the ministry headquarters around 10:00 a.m. and was held behind closed doors. It was attended by senior Malian military officials, including Major General Oumar Diarra and Major General Sidiki Samaké, alongside members of the minister’s advisory team. While no official communiqué was released detailing the substance of the discussions, the meeting underscores ongoing engagement between Bamako and Washington on defense-related matters, at a time when Mali continues to face significant security challenges across several regions.
