Mali and the Philippines Strengthen Diplomatic and Consular Ties (December 5, 2025)

Bamako, December 5, 2025 - The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdoulaye Diop, received the Philippine Ambassador to Mali, Leslie J. Baja, accompanied by Yacine Faye Sidibé, Honorary Consul of the Philippines in Mali. The meeting was part of a busy diplomatic agenda between the two countries.

Ambassador Baja presented a letter from Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. addressed to President of the Transition, General Assimi Goïta, signaling the desire to strengthen political dialogue and expand bilateral cooperation.

The meeting also marked the opening of the Honorary Consulate of the Philippines in Bamako, an important step to facilitate exchanges and revitalize the Philippine presence in Mali. Both parties commended the quality of mutual support between Bamako and Manila in international forums.

Discussions focused on strengthening the bilateral legal framework, including:

Exploring economic cooperation, especially in the mining sector

Both officials reaffirmed their commitment to building a partnership based on solidarity, common interest, and mutually beneficial cooperation, paving the way for a structured and dynamic Mali-Philippines relationship.
