Bamako, February 5, 2026 - Strengthening bilateral cooperation in the transport and infrastructure sector was at the center of discussions between Mali’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Dembélé Madina Sissoko, and Li Xiang, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Mali. The meeting, held Thursday in Bamako, marked the first official exchange between the two officials. Ambassador Li paid a courtesy visit to Minister Sissoko shortly after presenting his credentials to General Assimi Goïta, President of the Transition and Head of State. Discussions focused on reinforcing the Sino-Malian partnership in key infrastructure projects and exploring avenues to deepen collaboration in transport development, a strategic sector for Mali’s economic growth and regional connectivity. The engagement reflects the continued dynamism of relations between Mali and China, particularly in infrastructure development and public works.
