Mali | 4th National Day of Restored Sovereignty Celebrated Across the Country and Abroad

Bamako, January 14, 2026 - Mali marked the 4th National Day of Restored Sovereignty on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, a historic occasion celebrating the mobilization of the Malian people to assert their sovereignty and reject sanctions deemed illegitimate. The commemoration featured a series of official, social, and educational activities nationwide and within the diaspora. In Bamako, the Minister of Health and Social Development, Colonel-Major Assa Badiallo Touré, presented a significant donation of medicines to the Kalaban-Coro Reference Health Center (CSRéf). The equipment included birthing kits, feminine hygiene kits, modern stretchers, and essential injections and tablets, aimed at improving the quality of care and access to healthcare services. In Nioro du Sahel, the Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, Youba Ba, joined local authorities, school officials, and students in the celebrations, highlighting the government’s emphasis on civic education and patriotism among youth. The day began with a flag-raising ceremony at Kaïmé School, followed by the singing of the national anthem in Bambara and a history lecture for ninth-grade students on the recovery of sovereignty. The minister and his delegation later visited Maison Rose, where a large crowd continued the celebrations in an atmosphere of patriotic unity and social cohesion. In Dakar, Senegal, the Minister for Malians Abroad and African Integration, Mossa Ag Attaher, celebrated the day with the Malian community and nationals from other African and Southern African countries, presiding over a flag-raising ceremony and leading a conference on the origin and significance of the historic day. In Bamako, the Prime Minister, Major General Abdoulaye Maïga, delivered the official commemorative address, calling for national unity and highlighting progress since 2022, particularly the strengthening of state sovereignty and trust between the people and their leaders. In Timbuktu, the Minister of National Entrepreneurship, Employment, and Training, Oumou Sall Seck, participated in festivities that began on January 13, involving children in educational workshops on sovereignty, and presenting them with symbolic gifts. The 4th edition of the National Day of Reclaimed Sovereignty was marked by a spirit of patriotism, solidarity, and collective responsibility, reflecting the commitment of the Malian authorities and people to build a sovereign, stable, and prosperous Mali.
