Local Government Ministry Moves To Interdict 110 Staff In Corruption Probe

Kampala, August 18, 2026 - Local Government Minister Balaam moved to interdict 110 local government staff to clear the way for investigations into alleged misuse of public funds and weak accountability in district administration.

The affected personnel are drawn from Isingiro, Buhweju, Mitooma and Mbarara City. The action followed inspections that raised concerns over alleged ghost beneficiaries, spending irregularities and questionable delivery in health facilities, schools and infrastructure projects.

The minister said the staff should be interdicted with immediate effect while investigators examine the allegations. The move underscores the scale of the governance challenge facing local governments that manage service delivery and development funds across Uganda.

For investors and donors, the crackdown points to continued scrutiny of subnational procurement, public works and accountability systems, particularly in sectors tied to health, education and infrastructure spending.
