Legal Action Initiated Against Rights Lawyer Over Alleged “Misleading Information”

Khartoum, April 17, 2026 - Sudanese judicial authorities have launched legal proceedings against rights lawyer Rehab Mubarak, accusing her of disseminating information deemed harmful to national security amid the ongoing conflict.

According to judicial officials, Mubarak-who is affiliated with a network of emergency lawyers-faces charges related to the spread of what authorities describe as false reports aimed at undermining the military’s image and role. An arrest warrant has been issued as part of efforts to counter what officials characterize as a recent surge in misinformation.

Legal sources indicate that Mubarak has also been dismissed from the Sudanese Bar Association over alleged violations of professional ethics. The association maintains that she used her legal standing to promote narratives considered misleading and capable of inciting public opinion.

Mubarak, however, rejects the accusations, stating that the proceedings are linked to her work documenting human rights violations during the war. She argues that such actions are intended to suppress accountability and silence those monitoring abuses.

She further questioned the current approach to national security oversight, warning that targeting legal professionals and rights monitors risks undermining transparency and the rule of law.

The case highlights growing tensions between authorities and civil society actors in Sudan, as the conflict continues to generate competing narratives and intensify scrutiny over human rights conditions.
