Launch of the 2025 Arts and Culture Biennial: Strengthening Social Cohesion Through Culture

Timbuktu, December 20, 2025 - Prime Minister Abdoulaye Maïga inaugurated the 2025 Arts and Culture Biennial in Timbuktu, themed “Culture, a Pillar for Building the New Mali.” Running from December 18 to 28, the event showcases Malian traditions and creative expressions as part of the Year of Culture proclaimed by the transitional government.

The biennial aims to promote social cohesion and inclusive development by reinforcing national identity amid ongoing security challenges. It is also expected to stimulate cultural tourism, boost the local economy, and foster unity within the African Union.

However, instability in northern Mali may limit access and the event’s overall impact, highlighting the need for enhanced security measures, especially for vulnerable communities.
