Labor Inspection: Burkina Faso Moves Toward Harmonized Practices

Ouagadougou, November 24, 2025 - The Ministry of Public Service, Labor, and Social Protection (MFPTPS), through the Directorate General of Labor (DGT), launched on Monday a two-day workshop in Ouagadougou aimed at harmonizing the practices of labor inspection services across the country.

The opening ceremony was chaired by Jean-Marie Ki, Director of Studies and Regulations at the DGT, representing the Secretary General of the Ministry.

Designed as a platform for dialogue between labor inspectors and controllers, the workshop seeks to address the varying interpretations of certain provisions of the Labor and Social Security Code. Its ultimate goal: ensure coherent, standardized practices nationwide.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Ki stressed that the role of labor inspection has grown increasingly crucial in a context marked by rapid economic change, evolving work organization, and heightened expectations around social compliance. Labor inspection, he said, is at once “an instrument of social justice, a mechanism for preventing conflicts, and a guarantor of fundamental rights at work.”

He emphasized, however, that the effectiveness of this mission depends on ensuring that inspection practices are not only aligned with legal requirements but also uniform and predictable for all stakeholders.“This workshop is particularly important because it allows you to strengthen your shared understanding by reviewing your professional practices in light of national legislation, and by comparing your field experiences to identify both convergences and gaps that must be addressed,” he noted.

Calling on participants to engage in open, constructive dialogue, Mr. Ki underscored that harmonized practices are essential to improving the social climate and building an environment conducive to economic and social development-one rooted in legality, equity, and dialogue.
