Kinshasa: UN Urges Greater Youth Participation in Decision-Making
Kinshasa, November 17, 2025 - The UN Assistant Secretary-General for Youth, Felipe Paullier, called on Congolese authorities on November 25, 2025, to create more formal spaces for youth participation in decision-making bodies. The appeal came during a meeting with the Minister of Youth, Grâce Kutino.
Highlighting a global gap between demographics-50% of the population under 30-and the low representation of young people in governance, Paullier urged joint efforts to institutionalize youth participation, remove barriers to political life, and facilitate integration into the civil service.
This initiative follows recommendations made in December 2024 by the Group of Experts for Resolution 2250, which encouraged the appointment of young people to positions of responsibility in the DRC.
