Kinshasa Floods Paralyze Neighborhoods After Torrential Rains
Kinshasa, November 6, 2025 - Kinshasa, DRC - Torrential rains on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, caused severe flooding across multiple neighborhoods of Kinshasa, disrupting traffic and daily life for residents.
In Lingwala, the districts of Lokole, Niangwe, and Kalembelembe were submerged, while in Kalamu, overflowing rivers and accumulated debris intensified the situation. Barumbu also faced major flooding, with Itaga Avenue completely submerged and Saint-Charles Lwanga Catholic School forced to suspend evening classes.
The floods triggered a power outage after the Funa transformer substation was inundated. Residents are criticizing the authorities for poor maintenance of drainage ditches, which they say worsened the impact of the rains.
Local authorities are reportedly assessing the damage and coordinating emergency responses to restore normalcy in the affected areas.
