Kenyan police rescue 67 girls from suspected trafficking operation in Nakuru
Nakuru County, Kenya, March 29, 2026 - Kenyan police have rescued 67 girls believed to be victims of a suspected human trafficking network in Njoro, Nakuru County. According to local police commander Nelson Koech, the victims were found confined in a house where they had reportedly been lured with promises of employment opportunities. Survivors told authorities they had been held for months in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions, alleging abuse and punishment for those who questioned their situation. Police said the premises were being used by an agency that recruits individuals for work abroad, though its operating license had expired in December 2025. Authorities had previously ordered its closure. The agency has denied allegations of abuse, with representatives indicating they may pursue legal action. The Kenyan government has repeatedly warned citizens against using unverified recruitment channels, citing growing cases of fraud and trafficking linked to illegal job placement schemes.
