Kasai-Central: UNHCR Provides Land Titles and Housing to Returning Angolan Refugees
Kinshasa, November 21, 2025 - The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), in partnership with provincial authorities and local organizations, handed over 800 land titles and 78 houses to returning Angolan refugees in Nkonko, Kasai-Central province.
These former refugees had fled the Kamuina Nsapu militia conflict between 2016 and 2017. The ceremony was attended by UNHCR Regional Director for West and Central Africa, Abdouraouf Gnon-Konde, and the provincial governor.
The initiative is designed to guarantee land tenure security and provide decent housing for the returning families, promoting sustainable reintegration while contributing to peacebuilding and community empowerment in a region long affected by conflict.
