Kamonyi: Howo Truck Accident Kills Two, Injures 11
A serious Howo truck accident in Kamonyi District left two people dead and 11 others injured, including two in critical condition, on October 15, 2025, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred around 5:00 p.m. in Ruyenzi Center, Runda Sector, when the truck, loaded with sand, was traveling along Gihara Road toward Ruyenzi. According to Southern Province Police Spokesperson, CIP Kamanzi Hassan, the vehicle collided with five other vehicles and several pedestrians. Two victims died instantly at the scene.
Two of the seriously injured were transferred to Kigali University Hospital (CHUK), while others received treatment at La Frontière, UB Caritas, and Gihara Health Center.
Police suspect a technical failure in the truck’s braking system caused the accident. The driver has been detained at Runda Police Station while authorities prepare a report to be submitted for judicial action.
CIP Kamanzi expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery for the injured, emphasizing the police’s commitment to conducting a thorough investigation.
