JNIM Escalates Blockade; Multiple Countries Urge Citizens to Evacuate Mali

Bamako, November 12, 2025 - Mali, November 18-19, 2025 - Following JNIM’s announcement on November 18, 2025, of the launch of the second phase of its fuel and supply blockade, several European nations issued urgent travel advisories. Norway, Denmark, and Sweden formally called on their citizens to evacuate Mali immediately on November 19.

These warnings came on the heels of alerts from fifteen other countries, including the United States, France, and Portugal, which had previously cautioned their nationals about the heightened risk of kidnappings and attacks targeting foreigners amid the deteriorating security situation.

Authorities emphasized that the resurgence of JNIM activity, combined with ongoing fuel shortages and attacks on convoys, presents serious threats to both residents and expatriates, underscoring the need for vigilance and rapid response to the evolving crisis.
