Ituri: UNICEF Provides Humanitarian Aid to Over 3,700 Displaced and Returnee Families in Tchomia
Kinshasa, October 25, 2025 - DRC - The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), in partnership with the Primary Health Care Prevention Program (PPSSP), has distributed essential humanitarian assistance to 3,716 displaced and returnee families in the Tchomia chiefdom, Ituri province.
The aid, funded by the USAID Office of Humanitarian Assistance (BHA) under the Unirr project, includes blankets, cooking utensils, lightweight shelter kits, and feminine hygiene products, aimed at improving living conditions for families affected by recent clashes between local militias and the Congolese armed forces.
Beneficiaries include individuals returning from Uganda as well as internally displaced households, many of whom live in extreme poverty compounded by inadequate shelter and the limited capacity of host families. UNICEF emphasized that the support is part of ongoing efforts to provide urgent relief and protect vulnerable populations in conflict-affected areas of eastern DRC.
