Ituri: Hundreds of Trucks Stranded as Bunia-Mahagi Road Crumbles

By Sarah Ndaya2 min readFrançais

Bunia, Ituri, DRC - On Wednesday, November 5, 2025, hundreds of trucks carrying petroleum and essential goods were stranded on National Route 27 (RN27) between Bunia and Mahagi, as the deteriorating Pont Tchulu-Jina section, about 40 kilometers north of Bunia, became virtually impassable following heavy rains.

The quagmire threatens the timely supply of essential goods to the region, sparking concern among local communities and traders. The civil society group Forces Vives de l’Ituri criticized the ongoing ineffectiveness of roadworks carried out for over two years by ORC Construct, calling for the termination of the contract to prevent disputes over toll payments and warning of potential price hikes in Bunia’s markets.

ORC Construct has not yet responded to the accusations. Local authorities are assessing emergency measures to restore traffic and prevent a wider economic impact.
