Ituri: Civil Society Denounces Misappropriation of Oil Revenues at Mahagi Border Post
Bunia, November 10, 2025 - The Ituri Provincial Civil Society has denounced what it describes as a large-scale misappropriation of oil revenue collected at the Mahagi border post with Uganda, claiming that the Congolese state loses an estimated US$1.8 million per month.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, in Bunia, Dieudonné Lossa, the group’s coordinator, revealed that only 171 of the 750 tanker trucks that crossed the border in August 2025 were officially registered, suggesting the presence of a mafia-style network siphoning off state funds.
Civil society leaders have called on provincial authorities to open an investigation and hold those responsible accountable. The governor’s spokesperson responded that the allegations would be reviewed to ensure transparency and protect public interests.
