International Leaders Continue to Congratulate Guelleh After Re-election

Djibouti, April 11-13, 2026 - Diplomatic congratulations continued to pour in for the President of the Republic, Ismail Omar Guelleh, following his re-election in the April 10 presidential vote.

According to the Presidency, numerous messages have been received from heads of state and government of “brotherly and friendly countries,” extending wishes of “success and achievement” for the new mandate.

Several leaders described the result as a “resounding victory,” attributing it to what they called strong popular support for the president’s political vision. They also commended the conduct of the election, which they characterized as transparent and reflective of national unity.

Among the earliest to react were French President Emmanuel Macron and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who conveyed their congratulations in separate telephone conversations with President Guelleh. Discussions reportedly also touched on regional developments in the Horn of Africa.

The Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq, was also among the first world leaders to send an official message of congratulations.

Additional messages were received from regional and international figures, including Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, who praised the electoral outcome on behalf of the African Union Commission.

In separate statements, leaders including Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby also extended their congratulations, highlighting continued bilateral friendship and cooperation.

Officials indicated that the messages emphasize both the scale of the victory and what they described as the Djiboutian people’s commitment to a peaceful and transparent electoral process.
