Interior Minister Reviews Preparations Ahead of Djibouti Presidential Election

Djibouti, April 1, 2026 - With nine days remaining before the presidential election scheduled for April 10, the Minister of the Interior, Said Nouh Hassan, conducted a working visit to the Djibouti Prefecture to assess the progress of electoral preparations. According to an official statement, the visit forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with national guidelines and the electoral calendar. Authorities indicated that preparations have entered their final phase and are progressing “satisfactorily” and within established deadlines. During the visit, the minister praised the mobilization of local administrative services and the coordination among stakeholders involved in organizing the vote. He also commended the Prefect of Djibouti, Abdi Hassan Ahmed, for the quality of the work carried out, urging teams to maintain their efforts through to election day. Preparations have focused on two main areas: the training of polling station personnel and the finalization of electoral materials. Training sessions for presiding officers and polling staff were held on March 31 and April 1. Minister Said Nouh Hassan highlighted the importance of these sessions, describing them as essential to ensuring the proper conduct of the election. The training covered electoral regulations, voting procedures, vote counting, results centralization, and the roles and responsibilities of polling staff. At the same time, logistical preparations are nearing completion, including the assembly and verification of ballot boxes, the distribution of official documents such as voter lists and ballots, and the provision of necessary equipment. Authorities stated that these measures, carried out under the supervision of the prefectural administration, are designed to ensure full compliance with electoral standards and to facilitate a process that is free, transparent, and credible.
