Implementation of a Comprehensive Strategy for Preventing Gender-Based Violence
Niamey, December 2, 2025 - The national launch of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence took place through coordinated ceremonies across multiple regions, underscoring the government’s commitment to an integrated, multisectoral strategy aimed at addressing systemic gender inequalities. In Tahoua, Governor Colonel-Major Souleymane Amadou Moussa presided over a major regional event that brought together traditional chiefs, religious leaders, women’s associations, and representatives of the defense and security forces.
The ceremony was highlighted by the inauguration of a new specialized support center for survivors, as well as the establishment of community monitoring committees dedicated to preventing early marriage and sexual violence. Meanwhile, in Tillabéri, Governor Lieutenant-Colonel Maina Boukar framed the campaign as a series of “patriotic actions” essential to national cohesion and development, integrating gender equality into the broader national refoundation agenda.
