IMF Releases $445 Million to Support the Congolese Economy

Kinshasa, December 19, 2025 - The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved the immediate disbursement of $445 million to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), following the successful completion of the second review of the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) and the first review of the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF).

With this latest release, total IMF support to the DRC now stands at 570.9 million Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) under the ECF and 133.25 million SDRs under the resilience-focused financing mechanism.

Despite ongoing armed conflict in the eastern part of the country, the IMF notes that the Congolese economy remains resilient. Real GDP growth is projected to exceed 5 percent in both 2025 and 2026, while inflation has dropped sharply, from 11.7 percent at the end of 2024 to 2.2 percent in November 2025.

In early October 2025, the Central Bank of Congo reduced its key policy rate from 25 percent to 17.5 percent, reflecting improved macroeconomic stability.

The IMF confirmed that all performance criteria were met, with the exception of one related to multiple exchange rate practices, which has since been discontinued.

Going forward, the Fund has urged the Congolese authorities to maintain fiscal discipline, strengthen coordination between fiscal and monetary policy, continue structural reforms, and ensure adequate social spending to respond to the country’s ongoing humanitarian challenges.
