IGP Namuhoranye Warns Foreigners Against Violence in Rwanda

Kigali, December 5, 2025 - The Inspector General of Police (IGP), CG Felix Namuhoranye, warned that foreigners who attack Rwandans or other foreigners in the country will face severe measures, including deportation or prosecution and imprisonment.

The statement was made during a press conference held by the Rwanda Police and RIB, which reviewed the security situation in 2025. Police statistics indicate that crimes decreased by 15.7% compared to 2024, with a particular focus on combating violent crimes and theft.

IGP Namuhoranye emphasized that foreigners committing acts of abuse or violence in Kigali are immediately sent back to their countries, while others considered culpable are prosecuted and imprisoned.

He explained, “If you look at the decisions taken to send these people back home… many have already been sent home. Those who we arrest, they go to prison.”

According to the Rwandan Police, in the 12 months leading to August 2025, 64 foreigners were deported for assault and battery, and over 240 were prosecuted for various crimes.
