Huye: 25-Year-Old Found Hanging from a Tree, Police Investigate
Kigali, November 24, 2025 - Authorities are investigating the death of a 25-year-old man found hanging from a tree in Mpare Cell, Tumba Sector, Huye District. The incident was discovered on the morning of November 19, 2025, around 6:00 a.m., as residents began their daily routines.
According to neighbors, the young man, who sold samosas in Dansingi Center, had no known conflicts with family or community members. This has led locals to suspect foul play rather than suicide. One resident said, “Here in Mpare, there is a local beer called dundubwonko; many who drink it lose their humanity. Killing someone is not a crime to them. It is possible that he was killed and then hanged.”
Southern Province Police Spokesperson, CIP Kamanzi Hassan, confirmed that the authorities responded promptly after receiving reports from residents and local leaders. The body was taken to Butare University Hospital (CHUB) for an autopsy.
“Initial information indicates he had no conflict with his family. We are waiting for the investigation to determine the cause of death,” CIP Kamanzi stated. He expressed condolences to the victim’s family and assured them that all necessary steps would be taken to ensure justice through a thorough investigation.
Authorities have appealed to the public to share any information that could assist in clarifying the circumstances surrounding the death and expedite the investigation.
