High Islamic Council Urges Safe Return of Imam Dicko Amid Calls to Ban CFR

Bamako, January 2026 - Ousmane Madani Haïdara, president of the High Islamic Council of Mali, urged the head of the Bamako junta during the New Year’s greetings at Koulouba to authorize the safe return of Imam Mahmoud Dicko, describing him as a key figure in national reconciliation. At the same time, prominent figures in Ségou are calling on authorities to designate Dicko’s organization, the CFR, as a terrorist group, aiming to initiate legal proceedings against it.
