Haut-Uele: Motion of Censure Filed Against Governor Bakomito Despite Kinshasa’s Suspension Call
Kinshasa, November 19, 2025 - A motion of censure targeting Governor Jean Bakomito was officially submitted on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, to the Provincial Assembly of Haut-Uele, despite a national directive from Kinshasa calling for the suspension of such initiatives to ensure institutional stability.
The four members of parliament behind the motion accuse the governor of “blatant cronyism”, showing favoritism toward a small circle, and “manifest incompetence” in public administration. They further criticize him for deviating from the governance vision promoted by President Félix Tshisekedi and for being frequently absent from the provincial capital, Isiro.
Although the central government urged a pause on motions and petitions to avoid destabilizing the provinces, the Haut-Uele legislators maintain that their action meets all legal conditions of admissibility, noting that at least nine provinces in the country are currently experiencing similar attempts to remove provincial executives.
This move underscores growing tensions between provincial assemblies and the central government, raising questions about governance, accountability, and political stability in the DRC’s provinces.
