Guiriko Commemorates Burkina Faso’s 65th Independence Anniversary, Honoring 302 Citizens

Bobo-Dioulasso, December 12, 2025 - The Guiriko region celebrated the 65th anniversary of Burkina Faso’s independence on Thursday, December 11, under the theme: “Sacrifice of our martyrs, flame of our resistance: together for total and assured sovereignty.”

The ceremony was presided over by Regional Governor Mariama Konaté, in the presence of Minister of Public Service, Labor, and Social Protection Mathias Traoré, and Secretary General of the Government and Council of Ministers Ousmane Ouattara.

During the event, 302 individuals were formally recognized by the nation through official decorations for their contributions. Governor Konaté paid tribute to the armed forces, highlighting their courageous operations over the past year in areas previously considered hostile, and emphasized that defending national sovereignty is a collective responsibility of all Burkinabè citizens.

“This must be reflected in each of our decisions and actions,” she said, echoing the call of President Ibrahim Traoré for unity in the pursuit of sovereignty. She reaffirmed that the People’s Progressive Revolution, proclaimed on April 2, 2025, represents a societal vision to break dependencies and ensure Burkina Faso masters its own destiny.

Governor Konaté urged Guiriko residents to fully commit to the ongoing movement for complete sovereignty, emphasizing that it is “neither a facade nor mere rhetoric: it is a daily struggle and a shared responsibility.”

Minister Mathias Traoré congratulated the honorees and called on the population to actively contribute to national sovereignty. “On behalf of the government, we attended this commemorative ceremony in Guiriko at the invitation of the governor. It was a solemn occasion marked by acts of great significance,” he stated.

The event reflected a strong message of patriotism, unity, and commitment to Burkina Faso’s independence and national sovereignty.
