Government Updates Ebola Toll And Rules Out Kinshasa Cases
Kinshasa, August 18, 2026 - Health Minister Roger Kamba said the Ebola outbreak had caused 2,370 deaths from more than 5,000 confirmed cases across five provinces, while ruling out any confirmed cases in Kinshasa.
Kamba said the Bundibugyo strain was spreading faster but appeared less lethal than the Zaire strain. The update was delivered at a government briefing with Patrick Muyaya.
Education Minister Raissa Malu said distance learning would be used in 18 high-risk health zones for the 2026-27 school year, reflecting the outbreak's widening effect on public services.
The government's messaging is important for business continuity and public confidence, particularly in Kinshasa, while the school measures show the epidemic is becoming a national policy and service-delivery challenge.
