Goma Connected to High-Speed Fiber Network via Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda

GOMA, February 10, 2026 - The city of Goma in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo has begun receiving high-speed fiber optic internet through a new regional network linking Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda, according to the Paratus Group. The company announced the launch of a 2,000-kilometer fiber optic corridor stretching from the Port of Mombasa in Kenya to Goma, passing through major hubs in East Africa. The infrastructure includes data centers in Kigali, Kampala, and Nairobi, aimed at strengthening regional connectivity. Paratus said the network will provide high-speed and secure internet access to traditional internet service providers as well as corporate clients operating across multiple locations. The company’s Chief Commercial Officer, Martin Cox, stated that the new connection is expected to boost the digital economy in the region. “The establishment of a secure network from the port to Goma is an opportunity for internet service providers and businesses to access the international market. It will enhance stability and efficiency and open up new business opportunities in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and the DRC,” he said. Cox added that the project strengthens Paratus Group’s presence within the East African Community (EAC) and complements another major fiber optic backbone connecting eastern and western Africa, stretching from Maputo in Mozambique to Swakopmund in Namibia. Paratus operates across EAC member states through subsidiaries including Paratus Rwanda, Paratus Kenya, and Paratus Uganda, and maintains partnerships with regional telecommunications firms such as Roke Telecom Uganda and MoveOn Telecoms Kenya. In addition to terrestrial fiber infrastructure, the company also delivers connectivity solutions via satellite internet, expanding broadband access to remote and underserved areas. The new link is expected to significantly improve connectivity in eastern Congo, a region that has long faced infrastructure and security challenges affecting digital access.
