Ghanaian Vice President Engages Diaspora Community In Kigali

Kigali, August 27, 2026 - Ghanaian Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang urged Ghanaians living in Rwanda to register with their embassy, using a Kigali visit to strengthen consular planning and diaspora engagement.

Opoku-Agyemang met Ghanaian residents in Rwanda during a visit that began on August 24 and included participation in the Africa Mindset Reset Forum, which ended on Wednesday.

She said embassy registration helps Ghana locate and assist its citizens during crises, citing recent anti-immigrant tensions in South Africa that complicated efforts to identify and repatriate Ghanaians.

The vice president also briefed the community on Ghana's economic pressures, including inflation, currency depreciation and debt, and said the government was working on responses. Ghana's Ambassador to Rwanda, Ernest Yaw Amporful, said Ghanaians in Rwanda contribute to bilateral ties through work, trade, entrepreneurship, education and development activities.
