Gen. Muhoozi Reaffirms Love for Rwanda, Announces Upcoming Visit to Kigali
KAMPALA/KIGALI, February 14, 2026 - The Chief of Staff of the Uganda People's Defence Force, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has once again declared his affection for Rwanda and its people, confirming that he will soon travel to Kigali for an official visit. In a message posted in the early hours of February 14, 2026, on the social media platform X, Gen. Muhoozi expressed his deep admiration in Kinyarwanda, stating: “I love Rwanda and Rwandans very much. I will soon be visiting my Uncle Afande Paul.” The Ugandan army chief was referring to Paul Kagame, whom he has frequently described as both a mentor and a family figure. Gen. Muhoozi has often publicly referred to President Kagame as his “uncle” and a role model. Earlier this week, Gen. Muhoozi first announced his intention to visit Rwanda and revealed plans to meet President Kagame during his stay in Kigali. His latest statement reinforces growing expectations of renewed high-level engagement between the two neighboring nations. On several occasions, Gen. Muhoozi has emphasized the historic ties and long-standing friendship between Uganda and Rwanda, highlighting their shared political and military history as the foundation of bilateral cooperation. The anticipated visit comes amid continued efforts to strengthen diplomatic and security relations between the two countries, which share deep historical, cultural, and strategic links in the Great Lakes region.
