Gen. Muhoozi expresses support for Israel amid ongoing Israel-Iran conflict

Kampala, March 26, 2026 - Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces Muhoozi Kainerugaba has publicly stated his support for Israel in the ongoing conflict involving Israel and Iran, according to remarks shared through his public communications.

He indicated that his position is based on geopolitical and religious considerations, stating that Uganda would side with Israel if the conflict escalates in a way that threatens its defeat.

In his comments, Gen. Muhoozi said any outcome leading to what he described as the destruction or defeat of Israel would prompt alignment with Israel’s position, adding that he believes the world is growing weary of the ongoing hostilities in the Middle East.

He further referenced historical and religious ties in explaining his stance.

The conflict, referred to as the Israel-Iran war, reportedly began on February 28, 2026, and has continued for several weeks, with various international actors closely monitoring its escalation.

Gen. Muhoozi also made remarks suggesting strong political alignment with Israel, noting previous expressions of support, including plans to honor historical Israeli figures. Among them is Col. Yonatan Netanyahu, who led the 1976 Entebbe rescue operation in Uganda and was later killed during the same period.

The broader conflict involves Israel and Iran, with Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei remaining a central figure in Iran’s leadership during the ongoing tensions.

The situation remains highly volatile, with international calls for de-escalation continuing as the conflict develops.
